Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Why Riverside Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning
Kindling Chimney Riverside provides independent DuraFlex in Riverside chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair service throughout Riverside, CA, with crews that work on these liner systems every week. We’re not a DuraFlex dealer and we’re not factory-authorized, and we say that plainly because it matters: when you call us, you get an honest assessment of what your liner actually needs, not a sales pitch. Our DuraFlex work covers everything from routine creosote removal to full sectional relines, and every job starts with a written price before any tool comes off the truck. Call (831) 218-8547 for a free estimate.
Riverside’s housing stock makes DuraFlex especially relevant here. The city has thousands of single-family ranch and split-level homes built between 1950 and 1990, many with original wood-burning fireplaces and aging clay tile liners. When those liners crack, a stainless DuraFlex liner is often the right fix. And when a DuraFlex liner gets dirty or corroded, it needs a technician who knows the product line well enough to tell the difference between a cleaning issue and a replacement issue. That’s what we do.
Why Trust Kindling Chimney Riverside for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?
Danny Cortes, owner of Kindling Chimney Riverside, picked up his first wire brush through a trade program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he learned the difference between a chimney that looks clean and one that actually is. That distinction matters more with DuraFlex liners than with almost anything else, because a flex liner can look fine from the firebox while hiding heavy creosote or seam corrosion inside the flue. Danny has spent over a decade working on chimneys, and for the past several years he and his crew have served homes across Riverside, including older craftsman houses near the Mission Inn, where he’s seen just about every kind of creosote buildup a fireplace can produce.
Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and trained specifically on DuraFlex 316L, AL aluminum, Pro 316Ti, and 304 rigid components. We stock OEM DuraFlex tees, couplers, and top plates locally, which means when a DuraFlex liner shows a failed seam or a leaking tee connection, we can usually complete the repair on the same visit rather than ordering parts and coming back. We use pet-safe products where there’s a choice, and every visit includes shoe covers and drop cloths down on arrival, nothing moved without asking, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise, and it’s written into every job, not left to chance.
Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every DuraFlex cleaning, inspection, and repair. If the work isn’t right, we make it right. No fine print, no runaround.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Riverside
- Pinholed seams on DuraFlex 316L liner sections. Riverside’s hard water combines with creosote condensation inside the flue to create a mildly corrosive environment at every seam where two liner sections connect. Over time, pinholes form and flue gas can leak into the chimney chase. We find this most often on liners that haven’t been cleaned in five or more years. The fix is sectional replacement with a new DuraFlex coupler, not a resin patch, which won’t hold through Riverside’s hot summers.
- Kinked or crushed flex liner from DIY installation. DuraFlex flex liners are strong, but they’re not kink-proof. We regularly see 6-inch liners that were pulled through an offset smoke shelf by a homeowner with a rope and good intentions, and the result is a collapsed corrugation that traps creosote and reduces draft. Cleaning alone won’t fix this. The kinked section has to come out and be replaced with a properly sized DuraFlex section, sometimes with a pull cone and a second set of hands.
- Delaminated inner walls on older DuraFlex AL aluminum liners. Aluminum liners are rated for gas appliances only, and after ten or fifteen years of thermal cycling from gas inserts, the inner wall can begin to separate. What looks like a dirty liner on camera is actually structural. If we find this, we won’t clean and walk away, we’ll show you the camera footage and explain the replacement path.
- Leaking at the top plate and tee connection. Riverside’s wind-driven rain, especially during fall Santa Ana events, can force water behind the flashing at the top plate and down into the tee connection. The result is rust staining, damp insulation in the chase, and a musty smell near the fireplace. We call this out because it’s often misdiagnosed as a roof leak. The fix is a new top plate, proper silicone sealant rated for high heat, and often a better storm collar.
- Third-stage glazed creosote on wood-burning DuraFlex liners. Riverside homeowners who burn unseasoned wood or use the fireplace daily in winter can build up a hard, glassy creosote layer inside their DuraFlex liner that a standard wire brush won’t remove. This requires a rotary chain whip with a drill motor, done carefully to avoid scoring the stainless. We include this in our creosote removal service when we find it.
DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We use OEM DuraFlex components like tees, top plates, and couplers whenever they’re available and appropriate. But for common wear items like caps and flashing, we’ll sometimes recommend a better-quality aftermarket stainless alternative if it outlasts the original. That’s not a knock on DuraFlex. It’s just what 15 years of field experience tells us about which parts wear out first in Riverside’s climate.
Our honest stance on repairs is simple: if a liner has multiple pinholed seams or has lost more than 40% of its wall thickness, we push for sectional replacement rather than a patch. Resin patch kits can work temporarily, but Riverside’s summer heat breaks them down fast, and a failed patch inside a flue is a problem you can’t see until the next inspection. We’d rather tell you the truth now than sell you a repair that won’t hold. If you’re seeing rust streaks or smelling smoke, call (831) 218-8547 and we’ll camera-inspect the liner before quoting anything.
Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We run a Level 2 camera inspection on your DuraFlex liner, checking seam integrity at each coupler, the tee connection, the top plate, and the liner wall thickness. You see the footage. We explain every finding before quoting a dollar. Danny’s rule on every job: “Tell me what you’re seeing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it means before we touch anything.”
- 2
Repair or clean. If it’s a cleaning issue, we use brushes sized to your liner’s diameter and material, and we switch to a rotary chain whip for glazed creosote. If it’s a repair, we use OEM DuraFlex couplers, tees, or top plates where needed, and we never install a used section as “good enough.”
- 3
Test. After service, we run a draft test and a smoke test to confirm the flue is pulling correctly and no gas is escaping at any seam. We also re-camera the full length of the liner so you have before and after footage of exactly what we did.
- 4
Warranty and care promise. Every DuraFlex job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. We leave drop cloths down until the final vacuum pass, we take a photo of the clean-up before we leave, and you get a written summary of what was done and what, if anything, needs watching.

AfterDuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Riverside
We service and install the full DuraFlex product family: the DuraFlex 316L stainless steel chimney liner, the DuraFlex AL aluminum liner (gas appliances only), the DuraFlex Pro 316Ti liner for high-temperature wood stoves, and DuraFlex 304 stainless steel rigid liner sections. We stock common 6-inch and 8-inch flex sections, tees, couplers, and top plates in our Riverside service vehicles, which means a straightforward liner replacement or seam repair can often be completed the same day. For less common parts, we order from our regional supplier with a two to three day turnaround.
We Also Service These Brands
Chimney Sweep services are a big part of what we do, but DuraFlex isn’t the only liner system we work on. Our Riverside crews also service HeatShield resurfacing systems and Gelco liners, along with masonry flues and clay tile systems. If you’re not sure what liner you have, we’ll identify it during the inspection and tailor the cleaning or repair accordingly.
FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Service in Riverside
No. DuraFlex AL aluminum liners are rated for gas appliances only, because aluminum cannot handle the temperatures and acidic condensate produced by wood combustion. If you’re converting a gas fireplace to a wood-burning insert, the aluminum liner must be removed and replaced with a DuraFlex 316L or Pro 316Ti stainless liner. We’ll explain the sizing and installation during the inspection. Call (831) 218-8547 for an exact quote.
Rust streaks on a 316L liner almost always mean water is getting in somewhere above, usually at the top plate, storm collar, or a failed seam. Riverside’s wind-driven rain forces water behind the flashing and down the outside of the liner, where it oxidizes and drips back into the firebox. The fix is finding the water entry point with a camera inspection, then replacing the failed top plate or coupler and sealing the chase. Ignoring it leads to seam corrosion and liner failure.
Riverside’s municipal water is moderately hard, high in calcium and magnesium, and it shows up in two places on a chimney: as white mineral staining on the exterior chase, and as accelerated corrosion at the seams inside the flue where water and creosote combine. Stainless liners resist this better than clay tile, but the seams remain the weak point. Annual cleaning and leak checks catch seam corrosion early, before pinholes form. A waterproofing treatment on the exterior chase helps too.
A DuraFlex Pro 316Ti liner in a daily-use wood stove typically lasts 15 to 20 years with annual cleaning, but Riverside’s hot, dry summers and the thermal cycling from daily winter fires can shorten that at the seams. The liner itself is rated for high temperatures, but every seam and coupler adds a potential weak point. We recommend a camera inspection every other year on daily-use stoves, specifically to catch early seam wear.
Technically, there are patch kits on the market, but we don’t use them on DuraFlex liners that carry combustion exhaust, because the patch material expands and contracts at a different rate than the 316L stainless, and Riverside’s summer heat is hard on adhesives. A failed patch inside a flue is invisible until the next inspection, and by then the surrounding metal has often corroded too. If the damage is a small seam, we replace the section with a DuraFlex coupler. If multiple seams are pinholes, sectional replacement is the honest fix. Call (831) 218-8547 and we’ll camera-inspect before quoting anything.
Most standard DuraFlex chimney cleanings in Riverside run between $180 and $340, depending on liner length, creosote stage, and whether a rotary chain whip is needed for glazed buildup. If we find a failed seam or leaking top plate during the cleaning, we’ll show you the camera footage and quote the repair separately. Written price before any work starts, every time. Call (831) 218-8547 for a free estimate.
